Principal's Welcome

It is with great honour that I welcome you to the start of a new calendar year and an academic term at Invictus International School Dempsey Hill; together, we are Invictus. 

From the Latin, Invictus means ‘unconquerable’ or ‘undefeated’. It is a term that has been used throughout the ages to symbolise strength of character and perseverance.  William Earnst Henley’s celebrated poem, ‘Invictus’ has been frequently recited and quoted since he first penned it long ago, particularly the part, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” 

This can serve as a reminder for us to come together as a school community to show our inner strength and determination. We start by collaborating to create an environment that is safe, secure, positive - and most importantly, happy. To create this community culture we all need to be aware of each other.  We are all uniquely different, but essentially have the same basic needs and feelings that we need to nurture and develop, in ourselves and each other.

 We should all have high expectations for our academic, cocurricular and personal activities and behaviours. Everything starts from a solid foundation of respect - respect for ourselves, each other and the environment around us. Each member of the Invictus School community has a shared responsibility to put in our best efforts, to work to our full potential and look out for each other. I firmly believe that if we try our best in each regard, we will have a rich and enjoyable future of individual and shared successes together.

I am very much looking forward to getting to know each of you, but more importantly, to see how we get to know each other as a school community. Individually, we brig our unique personalities and skills and we shall work on them with inner strength and determination; however, it is through teamwork that we become inexorably stronger than the sum of our individual parts. Together, we are the masters of our fate, Together, we are captains of our souls. Together, we are Invictus.
