The Singapore Education System is a structure that caters to students across various stages of learning. This system consists of four main parts: The Early Years, Primary School, Secondary School, and Tertiary Education.
Early Years: Pre-school education for children from 4 to 6 years old helps develop cognitive, creative, and social skills.
Primary School: In Singapore, primary education is compulsory, just like in Malaysia. It involves a six-year programme catering to students between the ages of 7 and 12. it's compulsory to take a Mother tongue language, to help cultivate a bilingual population. At the end of their primary school education, they will take their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), which is the Singaporean equivalent of the PSAT.
Secondary School: Following primary school, students progress to secondary education. which is divided into two main tracks - Express and Normal (Academic or Technical). The track is based on a student's PSLE results and the school they're applying to. Secondary education lasts for 4 to 5 years, depending on the track. It includes a mix of core and elective subjects and culminates in the GCE 'O' Level or 'N' Level examination. However, this is planned to be changed in 2024, with a different banding system implemented.
Tertiary Education: After finishing Secondary School, students can choose to attend a Junior College, Polytechnic, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), or other institutions. Each tertiary school offers a range of programmes and various qualifications, such as GCE 'A' Levels, diplomas, or technical certificates.
